Canada Day Weekend Wrap-Up: Fluevog Field Trip, Ulti Flowers, Boho Sunday and Cat Pictures

It's no secret that I am an introvert. Any event with "fest" in the title is anathema to me - I would always rather stay home, or be with a group of trusted friends, than be in a crowd of people. This Saturday was Canada's 150th birthday - woo! Cause for celebration, but I'll celebrate in my own way: crowd-free, thank you!
I called upon my work colleagues to wear red and white for Canada Day on Friday - of course, I had to lead by example.

This is my entry for "Visible Monday" over at Not Dead Yet Style - get over there and say hi to Patti!
  • Top - Le Chateau, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in June 2016 - magazine-worthy!
  • Skirt - Astr, thrifted; last worn here in April with pink plaid
  • Shoes - Faith Hi Lo Reumah, Fluevog; last worn here in September 2016 with loads of red

I love this top - I've had it for several years, and although I don't wear it a lot, it stays because it fits so well.
The skirt is PVC with little perforations in it (you can see them better in the first picture.

The stuff:
I also invited my fashionable coworkers to join me on a wee field trip to the new Fluevog store - they all know I'm a fan, so I got to introduce some of them to the wonders in person. I had to wear a pair of Fluevogs myself, of course! These are a wooden sole, with floral leather - and are shockingly comfortable.

Vintage bling:
The necklace is my Grandma J's, probably from the early 60s. My Grandpa used to buy her good quality costume jewelry, and I'm guessing this is one of the pieces he bought her. It has no markings or stamps, but it's never tarnished, and it feels like good quality. The beads are probably glass, not jade - the ring is jade, though.

  • Necklace - Grandma J, vintage 60s
  • Jade ring - Mom's, vintage 70s
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver
  • Glass bangle - thrifted

Vizzini and I had our usual pre-work cuddles in the morning while I was getting ready.
"Come back, Woman, I'm not done cuddling with you!"
 So tempting!
"I could make a bit more room for you on the Gold Chair, I suppose."
L was off on Friday - I so wanted to play hooky with my guys!
"I will sit here and wait for you to get home."
I know you're waiting to see what I bought at Fluevog - yes, of COURSE I bought something. Such a dangerous store!
These are the Effortless Bebe shoes (link here, 'cause I love, and you can buy your own pair - Fluevog twins!). They were marked down from $399 to $179.99 - saving $120! (but still spending $180, says the voice in my head).

These are the same family as the Effortless Vivian pair here that I wore a couple of weeks ago.
I bought my other pair in a size 9.5, but these are a size 10. It's always good to try Fluevogs on if you can - they are highly erratic in sizing!

I love the pink metallic leather!
So pretty! I told L I'd bought a pair, and he was actually relieved, as he spent some of his day in the record store buying CDs (he has over 2,000). We're even!

We hung out on Friday night and played multiple board games. We were up bright and early for a game of Ultimate Frisbee. This is what I wore to the field (not to play the game, though!).
It was deliciously cool to wear for our walk to the field and the walk home after brunch.

  • Dress - All Saints, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in August 2016 for an evening of chillin' with my women
  • Shoes - Franco Sarto, consignment; last worn here (4th outfit) for the Day of Indolence in June

The dress is 100% silk - I am wearing a navy blue vintage slip under it for coverage (you can see it on the slide slits in the above and below pics).
Perfect for a quick change at the field. We had a great game, although it was very windy and the disc went all over the place.

Covered up with my thrifted hat and sunnies.
Why yes, I am a movie star!

The stuff:
I tend not to wear anything too complicated for Ulti. Easy shoes for walking.

  • Earrings - local

L and I stayed home for the actual Canada Day festivities being held everywhere on Saturday night, and played Arkham Horror. We could hear the music from downtown, and watched the fireworks from our balcony later. Much hooting and hollering as the carousing crowds walked home later.

As the sun goes down, my rings cast sunspots. I like to mess with Vizzini and make him chase them around. This one hit the front of one of our display cabinets.
I didn't realize until I cropped it, that I can see myself in the reflection.
"I've caught it this time, I know it!"
 He's such a funny cat.

He climbs around us, going after elastic bands, and anything hanging off the table, occasionally snoozing near us on a pillow and flopping on the cool tiles on the deck.
"What is that ruckus!?"
As the sun set, he came back inside. He was not impressed by the fireworks.

On Sunday, as we do during all long weekends, all of our group of Most Excellent Friends gathered to hang out with a few bevvies and snacks at a local pub. I had to wear my lovely new-to-me boho dress.
I was going to wear it to the Ulti field, but L said it was too nice, and I should save it for our afternoon out. I agreed!

  • Dress - TopShop Kate Moss Collection, thrifted; purchased here for $32.95
  • Shoes - Gap, thrifted; first worn here in June with floral

This babydoll cut is one I usually avoid, because it makes me look all boobs and no waist, but the silk is thin enough and billowy enough that I don't feel like it adds visual weight to my midsection.

It was very breezy at the pub, and my dress tried very hard to billow up over the table (and my head!), to everyone's amusement. I wore a pair of little lingerie shorts (they're bright pink!) underneath to forestall any flashes of my underthings.
I tried doing a slip under it at first, but it showed too much at the hem. Not to my liking.
I adored the swooshiness of this dress! I'm excited to wear it again!

I didn't wear a hat, but instead used a thrifted burn-out velvet silk scarf as my physical cover-up.
I loved all the textures and colours of this outfit. It was very much to my (current) taste.

Good cover-up too!
We had a group of about 14 of us, and hung out for about 4 hours. I had a nap when I got home, and then L and I watched recorded TV shows.

The stuff:
These wood-soled shoes were the perfect look - and pretty comfy for the walk to and from the pub.

Vintage bling:
I have about 4 different decades representing here!

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Bronze "strips" cuff - Midzo, vintage fair
  • Bronze/leather cuff - Mom's, vintage late 60s
  • Earrings - homegrown vintage, 1994, Suzy Shier
  • Floral ring - Sarah Coventry, Powell River vintage store
  • Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
  • Sunglasses - The Patch

And today, L and I are just hanging out, enjoying the extra day off. Vizzini, how are you doing?

"Hiding from the world, as I like to do."
Perfect! A very Happy Canada Day to my Canuck friends and readers!

  5. New shoes! They should discount you more as you bring all your friends to share in the delights there. I love the Kate Moss dress, and the shawl is perfect with it. I braved the crowds for Canada Day, in the morning. The atmosphere was festive but exhausting. I don't think I'll do that again. Great weather for ulti!

  6. I love this scarf dress and think it's such a pretty and flattering shape. Sometimes it's good to flaunt what mother nature gave you girl!

Your new pink shoes are utterly adorable. I'm pleased that you managed to justify that price thanks to the huge savings. We women are clever like that aren't we?

    1. Thank you! I was leery of being boobtastic, but it was not that bad. I appreciate the reminder! Yes, we're very good at it - all our little tricks, how much we saved, amortization, cost per wear... hee hee!

  8. Always enjoy your fashion, but my question is WW related. You often mention drinks with friends, etc. What do you drink that's WW-friendly (and I'm guessing alcoholic)? :) I'm newly returned to the WW fold and struggling with the social ...
