Ruffles, a Plaid Bustier and Leopard - for Work!

Today's outfit got a lot of love at work - and I have to say, I just love that my coworkers give me their honest impressions of my outfits. This was one of the wackier ones for me, but what the heck! I'm on vacation for two whole days!
This outfit features one of the oldest items in my wardrobe that isn't a vintage piece: this plaid bustier.

  • Shirt - Tommy Hilfiger, thrifted; last seen here for Star Wars Day in May
  • Bustier - Le Chateau, consignment; last worn here in March 2013
  • Skirt - Sandra Angelozzi, thrifted; purchased here for $17.95
  • Shoes - Nine West, consignment; last worn here (5th outfit) on last year's bigass stay-cation for L's birthday party
  • Jacket (below) - Lazy Susan's; last seen here on Monday

You know those special pieces that linger? They don't take up much space, and they have such a specific use...but you can't give them up! This corset (or bustier? which?) top is like that for me. It's very stretchy (cotton and Lycra blend), and has silicone along the top so that it doesn't slide down. Here's a flashback to August 2008 - 9 years ago! - when I first wore it on the blog. The only other things I still have from that outfit are the earrings (they're these ones) and the Fluevogs, which are my Listen Up Harlow pair (these ones, last worn with my Traveling Yellow Skirt outfit in 2013; hmm, I should wear those again).

Moving on...I loved this silk organza ruffled skirt! So much fun to wear! It got very wrinkled on the backside (below is just from cuddling Vizzini!) over my day at work, but what a gorgeous piece to wear. I floofed it with my hands, swooshed around, and may have twirled.
I was pleased with how nicely the black and white plaid worked with the pinky-blush skirt, and how well the leopard bits went with it too. I just love it when an outfit comes together.

Outerwear. I'm getting a lot of use out of my satin bomber!
I love the contrast of the sporty, the floral and the ruffles.

The stuff:
Ba-bang! Those are some shoes! They are leopard on the front, floral on the sides, and two other patterns on the heel and back of the shoe. They were actually great for a day at work - I could even run in them. My feet are tired now, but they'll have all weekend to recover.

Leopard and sparkle bling:
Sparkly! Shiny!

  • Belt - Talbots, thrifted
  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Spinner ring - Twang & Pearl
  • Ring - Frances Jewellers, vintage early 60s, Dad's
  • Earrings - Lazy Suzan's

I'll be back on Sunday with tales of excitement, oodles of photos and a few outfits. Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I really like this outfit Sheila! It all works so well together - you're an expert at pairing pieces together, I wouldn't have thought of this combination myself but it's awesome. That is such a beautiful skirt.

    1. I actually wore this corset/bustier thing for my first day at my current job, over 6 years ago! I've had it forever.

  3. Wow--I love this combination. I get that it's unusual but it totally works on you. (It would work on me too I think!)

This is a prime example of the creativity in being an "ensemble artist"--taking all these disparate elements, new and old, and weaving them into a harmonious whole. Well done!

    1. I think you should try it, Linda! Go for it! Thank you so much - it felt very liberating to try something so far out of the norm.

  4. This is such a fun outfit - I wouldn't have imagined how all the pieces would have worked together, but they really do. I love floofy skirts, and they definitely inspire "at work twirling".

  8. Okay, I never saw this coming! I worry that I'm becoming very conservative in my old age Sheila, by suggesting black to go with this fab ruffle skirt. Your pattern play and gorgeous mix of fabrics is wonderful - oh how I love to have your style influence mine.
