Casual Friday - Stripey Loser

Ah, Friday, sweet Friday.

I went shopping at Winners after work tonight - I finally spent my birthday $60 gift card from the Winesday Women. I got some groovy shoes, a pencil skirt and a t-shirt, and a cool shirt for L.

So, I wore shopping clothes to work:
Boots for easy on/off for trying on shoes, tights and skirt for trying on dresses/skirts, and tops that are easy to pull on and off (once I layer them, they pull off and go back on as a unit). The "teeth" necklace and belt were a bit of a pain, but hey, I had to accessorize!

I also kept my outerwear simple:
The beret, scarf and gloves easily packed into my bag while I shopped. I hate it when I have bulky outerwear on when I'm shopping.

I'll show off the new items in a couple of weeks - I'm busy planning now for Jane's 3rd Wardrobe Challenge! It starts Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Striped tee (Majestic, gift from Caro), "Beautiful Losers" tee (Leonard Cohen tour shirt), skirt (Bebe Sport, swapped, Caro's), tights (Hue), belt (Jacob), boots (Aldo, consignment), chainmail necklace (charity auction), "teeth" necklace (The Bay), jacket (Bebe, vintage), beret (Jacob), scarf (The Bay), gloves (Parkhurst).

  1. I love the concept of "shopping clothes."

I've been spending most of my time in my "eating clothes."

  2. I'm doing the challenge too! I'm actually going to be traveling, so I think maybe that makes it easier, so I may be cheating. Anyway, I'm excited to see what you come up with.

Your jacket is so great! I must be stupid -- it never occurred to me to wear a less heavy coat when I go shopping. You learn something new every day!

  3. Sound slike a wonderful shopping trip. And I like a woman who means business - when it comes to shopping that is. I can't wait to see what everyone is wearing for the Capsule Challenge. I sorted mine out yesterday.

  4. I'm glad I'm not the only one who plans what I'm wearing to shop in.

I looove the jacket. The boots are pretty ace too.

  5. Aw, I love shopping outfits! Great idea on the layering of shirts. I'm looking forward to seeing Jane's challenge participants and the clothes they choose. I'm working on a capsule wardrobe for the entire spring and summer. It's daunting!

  7. Hello! (Rabid here) Great skirt. Here's a question you might be able to answer, Ms. Fashionista Extraordinaire:

why don't they make boots that don't slouch around your ankles?? I have invested a lot of money in boots this season, have bought some fabulous knee highs, but they all fall down around my ankles. I have bigger calves and slim ankles and I thought that was the problem, but I see it on everyone. On me, though, it just looks worse. Why is there no support wiring or structure to keep the boots from doing this, it drives me crazy! I hate having to constantly unzip and rezip them up to where they should be.

    Help!

  8. Sheila, that's so smart to have specific clothes for when you go shopping - especially if you go thrift shopping and don't necessarily have a changing room. It took me a while to learn this after wearing black bras or boots and skinny jeans to go shopping - such a pain to take on and off!

Yup, the thrift shop is the one in the basement on Robson.

I'd LOVE to learn about your favorite shops in your area. I may be staying downtown in May for a dance event and will let you know if I'll be there for sure - it would be awesome if it would work out to meet up.

  9. Wendy, I have clothes like that too - I try not to wear them too often!

Julia, cool! I think traveling does make it easier. Thanks - funny, people either love or loathe this jacket.

Jane, it was fun! I like shopping on my own most of the time because I can be efficient. I'll be posting my 20+5 tonight.

Megan, it only makes sense! Thanks so much!

Alison, me too. I always layer my shirts in the cold weather. I will be doing a capsule wardrobe in May when I travel to Europe too, but a whole summer?? Wow, that's majorly daunting!

    Thanks, Jane!

Hey, Rabid! Look for boots that don't go straight down the shaft - you want them to curve in at the ankle. That will give you a lot less slouching there. Also look for boots in thick material (either leather or fake leather) so that they remain more rigid. I know it's hard to find those, as slouchy boots are in style right now.

You could also try taking your boots to a cobbler and asking them to put in interior reinforcements to make the shaft more rigid, but you'll always get a wee bit of wrinkling at the ankle due to the motion of your foot when walking.

Kari, oh, gosh, my thrift shopping clothes are even more spare than this. There's nothing worse than having to deal with pants or lace-up shoes when you're trying stuff on.

Let me know when you're up here in May - I will be in Europe for 12 days, but am around for the rest of the month - I would love to meet up!
