My Painting and the Bar

I'm taking a Painting with Acrylics beginner class at the local art supply store with my friend, Elaine. This has been really cool; I grew up doing art (Mom is an art teacher and a very accomplished artist), but haven't really done any painting aside from some model railroad backdrops over 10 years ago. The picture I chose to do is one of the place L grew up in; my in-laws just sold it, so I thought it would be nice for them to have a memory of it. This is the photo:
And this is my painting (I took the picture of it leaning on a box, so the top part is a bit out of focus):It's almost done - I have some work to do on the beach and the grasses in the very front, and a little bit more on the trees to make them look right. I should be able to finish tomorrow night.

I was taking a bunch of pictures of the trees outside our window, off our deck. I love the way the light filters through all the pine and oak trees. I want the next picture to be much more loosey-goosey in terms of style; thinking more Group of Seven than Robert Bateman.

Anyway, after I went to bed, L apparently decided to take a picture of our bar. As I've mentioned before, I am a scotch afficianado. And this is our bar:
That's a lot of booze.

  1. OK, Sheila here's my last comment for today. My father was an artist and I've done courses in oils, acrylics and watercolour, but there the similarities end, cos you can really paint. I've done a few bits and pieces but nothing as good as this. Well done!
Oh, I can't ever think of what to say about these small figures you paint, as it's not a hobby I've come across before. But what I can say, is that you do paint them so precisely, they do look painstaking to do, which is what the point is I suppose.
