Velvet and Wool - and Fab Shoes

Woo, what a day. I slightly overdid it on the Prosecco last night, so was feeling a little fuzzy today.
Keep calm and wear fabulous shoes.

  • Jacket - Ralph Lauren, thrifted; last worn here in January to see Dwight Yoakam
  • Skirt - Bianca, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in November 2016 with a once-worn blouse
  • Shoes - Poetic Licence; last worn here with corporate purple in November 2016
  • Coat (below) - Parkhurst, thrifted

Not a terribly exciting outfit, but I'm happy to get one more wear out of all 3 major players here: the velvet jacket, the wool skirt and the fab shoes. They will all be packed away for the warmer months.
I usually wear this jacket belted, but I didn't have time to dig out a belt this morning. *shrug* It's been a busy week.

Outerwear:
Putting my Danier purple gloves on. Those boots were made for walkin' - I wear them nearly every day.

The stuff:
So pretty! Bows! Colours!

Blurry bling:
Yup, that's bling.

  • Earrings - don't remember
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

I did my nails on Tuesday night, keeping up with my self-care. I bought a new quick-dry base coat.
It dried quickly, as promised. The polish is another oldie - no idea how many years, but probably at least ten. This is a Rimmel one again, called "Torrid." Looks like a browny-plum to me! It's nice but it's scratched and the tips are rubbing off rather fast. I think I'll turf it.

One of the women I work with took this picture of my with my flowers from yesterday. The irises opened up overnight.
My whole reception area reeks of the lilies. Very stinky. However, I love the flowers!

I'm going to be taking a break this weekend - goodness knows, I need it! - and will be back on Monday with tales of adventure! Have a great weekend!

It Was Twenty Years Ago Today...and Pink, Red and Velvet

Hello, my friends! I hope you will forgive me and indulge me in a little flashback down Memory Lane, but today is L's and my 20th wedding anniversary. Smack dab in the middle of the week!

Look what was waiting for me at work!
They're from L - many of the lilies have since opened up since I took that picture - I'm excited to see how the purple irises look once they open. Aw, he always gets me flowers.

I took a bunch of pictures of photos from back in the day, which are further down this post. But first, today's outfit.
Down to the last week and a bit of my fall/winter wardrobe, so trying to wear some of my favourite things again, like these amazing vintage velvet trousers.

  • Blouse - Hazel, thrifted; first worn here for a half day for Valentine's in February
  • Trousers - TanJay, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in December with a load of glitter and shine
  • Shoes - Marc; last worn here in January with the hug from Canada
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather

I much prefer this blouse tucked in as it allows the ginormous sleeves to take centre stage. It's also a little less overwhelming on my frame, especially with ginormous velvet pants!
I am large and in charge. Today, L and I had to deal with our shower/tub not draining - a little teamwork and voila, I came home a bit early, the plumber fixed it, and the Prosecco is chilling in the fridge (thanks to Lois and Brent for that!). We (L and I) work well together.

Outerwear:
Wow, that hat looks completely dorky on me there. It's by Andre from Roberta's Hats, and the gloves are my studded Danier ones. I bused home to deal with the plumber, and it was just pouring rain and I got soaked, even on a little walk from the bus stop. And of course, now it's sunny.

The stuff:
Lovely red shoes. Can one every have too many pairs of red shoes and boots? I think not.

Plain ol' bling:
I've been wearing some of my "day" scarves instead of warmer, wooly ones.

  • Scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Belt (not shown, forgot I was wearing it) - Plum
  • Bangle - local
  • Earrings - 10th anniversary gift from L

Okay, you ready? These are all of my family, all from 20 years ago. We didn't have digital cameras back then, so these are pictures of photographs.

I got ready in the morning at our apartment. I wore my mom's wedding dress (circa 1965).
Dad hated wearing a tie, so he wore the gaudiest one he could find. Very Dad. Mom looks awesome in her dark green dress with satin cuffs and collar.

At the interfaith chapel at the University of Victoria. My awesome brother Dave.
Ah, 1997, era of the collarless shirt for men!
Yes, I am a weepyass mess. I cry at everything, and I was a total mess during the entire ceremony.

My dad has just walked me up the aisle here, and we are all laughing because he stepped on the dress' train...just like he did when he and Mom got married. We had teased him mercilessly - "Don't step on the train!" but of course, he did.
L wore a vintage 60s Nehru jacket - and look at his short hair! That's my bestie Janet on the right. She wore nylons for me (a big sacrifice). I recall she took them off as soon as she could.

Leaving the chapel, and coming outside to all our friends and family.
No tattoos then!

Here we are from the front. We have a big version of this photo framed in the hall outside our bedroom.
I love how happy we look. Everyone was furiously snapping pictures.

This is my side of the family.
The time-stamp is wrong. It was the 22nd.
Aunt Lois, Dad, Mom, L, me, Dave and his then-girlfriend (and now ex-wife) Cynthia.

This is L's Mom Louise and his step-dad Lawrence.
We did our pictures in the grounds around the University. It was cloudy and rainy most of the day - just like today!

L's family.
Grandma D, L, me, L's best man Kurt, L's brother Virgil and Grandma W. Both grandmas have since died.

Mingling around outside the chapel.
Cynthia, my aunt Kathy (Mom's best friend), Dave, Kathy's youngest daughter Stacy, my dad's running buddy Marian, and Dad.

At the reception, which was at the Union Club.
Lawrence and Louise, looking happy. Lawrence has been dead now for about 4 years.

Dave and Cynthia.
Dave has always been a bit of a goofball - it runs in the family. Those of you who've met me are nodding...

Dave showing off his suspenders.
Classy dude.

Mom and Dad, having a hug.
My dad died 6 months after I got married. These are all the last pictures I have of him.

Mom with my cousin Heidi (she's Lois' daughter - Lois is my dad's sister).
Very 90s fashion in that crushed velvet dress, Heidi! She must have caught my bouquet. My whole wedding was a bit of a blur as I was rather hungover from the raucous and rowdy evening the night before.

Lois and Brent.
So smoochy! They are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this year! I remember their wedding (I was 9), and I even remember what I wore (a long green and white polyester dress).

My dad was a very funny guy (great at puns).
I don't know if Mom is laughing at something he said, but whatever it was, it was hilarious.

My mom's parents, my Gram and Grandad, weren't able to make it to the wedding or reception due to health issues, so after the wedding, L and I went to their condo and did some pictures.
Grandad died that August, and Gram died a few months later. These are the last pictures I have of them as well.

And last, but not least, the classic "ring shot". Our wedding bands are a little less shiny now, more battered and scratched, but we're 20 years older.
And yes, those are cat scratches on my hand, from our first cat, Othello, who has also died since then. Ha, I didn't mean for this to be a litany of the dead! But it makes me happy to see all my family here, celebrating with us - and I shared all these pictures with them so that they could enjoy them too.

A very happy 20th anniversary to you, L. Thank you for being my partner on this crazy ride.

Lots of Dots

A little quieter today, and feeling more under control. Only a few more days till the weekend. I can do it.
I got a lot of love for this outfit. It's very corporate, but still has that "me" factor, I think.

  • Jacket - Danier Couture, consignment; last worn here in January with a crazy leather skirt
  • Shirt - Tommy Hilfiger, thrifted; last seen here in February under a groovy grey jacket
  • Skirt - Andres Courreges, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in November 2016 with Wonder Woman coppers
  • Shoes - Lola Ramona; purchased here for $120.00
  • Coat (below) - Samuel Dong, thrifted

"Every picture needs a blurry cat in it."
A nice mix of quality pieces, although it's nearly time for me to find a new white shirt. They don't last long!
I love this beautiful skirt so much - it is really thick wool so it gets packed away with my fall/winter items. That'll be happening soon! The Great Closet Swap-Over!

Mr. Lovey needed cuddles this morning.
"No one will see this, right?"
He's going to get to go on the deck again soon if if starts warming up. Then he'll be unbearable - once he can go out there, he wants the doors open all the time.

Outerwear:
Yay, no scarf! It was supposed to rain today, so I wore my Liz Claiborne vintage/thrifted hat. Nope, no rain. And I only wore my black leather studded Danier gloves for half of the walk to work.

The stuff:
First wearing of these magnificent shoes, and I loved them. That is an awesome heel height for me.

Dotted bling:
Many circles.

  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Earrings - local
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Leather, Saturday Ballet, Sunday Blues, Dinner Velvet and Monday Shiny

It has been a weekend. L's family came to town on Saturday - his mom and brother - and we entertained them all weekend, which culminated with a giant dinner with my family at a local restaurant. Why all the fuss? L and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this week!

Friday night was the only time that L and I had together, hence my lack of post, but I had a "Bam! In your face" outfit for work. See?
I loved this outfit. I felt amazing in it.

  • Leather peplum - H&M, consignment; purchased here for $42.98
  • Skirt - Precis Petite; last seen here with textural sparkle in December 2016 (with the same shoes)
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here for Heavy Metal Monday a couple of weeks ago
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather, consignment

Right? This was pretty over-the-top for a Friday, but I really did not care. Also, my ink is out, which I love.
"I have a feeling I will be ignored this weekend."
I do love a flare. Flare on the top, flare on the skirt, even the heels.

Outerwear:
Slight hints of sun over the past few days, but mostly it's still leather weather. I also had a little fur scarf (Danier, thrifted), and my mustard wool Parkhurst gloves.

The stuff:
Shiny! I love these shoes. I want more in other colours.

Copper bling:
All the copper!

  • Belt - Renoir, vintage 60s, vintage fair
  • Big cuff/earrings - Renoir, vintage 60s, Grandma J's
  • Smaller cuff/two non-glittery rings - vintage 70s, vintage expo
  • Ring with glitter stones - vintage fair

Up bright and early to meet up with L's mom and brother for brunch. We did a lot of walking this weekend, so it was all low shoes, every day. My feet are still tired, though.
First wearing of my ballet skirt - I couldn't wait for summer!

  • Sweater - Gap, thrifted; last seen here in January with yellow tweed
  • Skirt - Li's, thrifted; purchased here for $16.50
  • Shoes - Noa Noa, consignment; last worn here in January with red leather and stripes
  • Coat (below) - Danier, consignment

This was lovely for strolling about. I wandered around with Louise for a while, then we ran into L and V at the pub.
I also wore this out for dinner, and lounged around it during the evening, until the wee hours, before I crashed into bed.

Outerwear:
Yup, still cold. The scarf is by Beechers Brook (thrifted) and the gloves are Danier.

The stuff:
Easy shoes for lots and lots of walking.

Purple and silver bling:
Although I took all my pictures with the chaos rose on, I didn't wear it all day. It didn't fit under my gloves.

  • Earrings - local
  • Chaos rose ring - thrifted
  • Bangle - local
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

And up again for brunch with the 'laws on Sunday.
I was pawing through my wardrobe with Louise when I noticed that I hadn't worn this dress yet in the fall/winter season. Had to fix that!

  • Blouse - no label, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in December 2016 under my stained glass dress
  • Dress - Desigual; last worn here with this same blouse in September 2016
  • Boots - Lucky Brand, swap from Cat; last worn here in February in a grey daze
  • Coat (below) - Samuel Dong, thrifted

We did brunch, then wandered through some tourist attractions, and went to the museum.
I don't usually go into the tourist zone (hee) in town, but at this time of year, it's relatively quiet and bearable.

Outerwear:
What most people saw. A repeat of the purple gloves. Starting to get tired...I'm really not gritting my teeth there.

The stuff:
These boots are awesome, but are now in the bag to get reheeled, along with a couple pairs of shoes, that have been shamefully in there for around 6 months. I keep forgetting...

Shiny bling:
I wore the pin at the top button of the baby blue blouse.

  • Pin - The Bay, around 15 years ago
  • Earrings - consignment in Sidney
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

Louise went back to the hotel for a nap, and L and V headed off to Chapters. I'd spotted a sale sign in the window at She She Shoes the day before and needed a better look. That's my excuse.
When you see shoes like this in the "last pairs" sale, they kind of have to come home with you! These are by Lola Ramona and were marked down to $120.00 from $200.
A bargain for white and black leather polka dots, I say!  And with bows on the back?

And a striped sole?
Oh my goodness, YES.

Mom arranged a big dinner for our anniversary on Sunday night, so I pulled out one of my favourite dresses that I haven't worn in forever.
It was quite glarey/sunny by then, but at least you can see the pattern well. That's velvet, too.

  • Velvet cheongsam dress - vintage, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in March 2014 for an art gallery opening, followed by a birthday party
  • Shoes - Half Truth Veda, Fluevog; last seen here (4th outfit) for the second round of the Sing-Along "Sound of Music" over the Christmas holidays 2016
  • Coat (below) - Danier, consignment

 Such a pretty dress!
It's not super-fitted, but the fabric has no stretch at all. If I move too much, the snaps start popping open.

Outerwear:
There are those purple gloves again!

The stuff:
My Vedas are getting a wee bit thrashed - I have walked a lot of miles and kilometers in them, in sun, wind, and rain!

Black bling:
The purse is an old Liz Claiborne that I've had for around 17 years.

  • Fascinator - Heart's Content
  • Earrings - Le Chateau

Another crash into bed last night meant that I did no outfit planning (and it shows).
Shiny! Pay no attention to that tired face!

  • Leather top - Asos, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit, same shoes) in November 2016 for dinner out with Tammy
  • Culottes - Jones New York, vintage, thrifted; last worn here in December 2016 with matchy magenta
  • Shoes - Shellys London; last seen here in December 2016 with velvet and shiny brocade
  • Coat (below) - Vassali, consignment

Super shiny! I don't look tired at all!
Nothing back here but shine!

Don't believe these are culottes? I'll prove it!
 Ta-dah!

Outerwear:
Well, that looks halfway decent. All the usual furry Danier stuff, plus matching leather gloves.

The stuff:
These shoes weren't a great idea for a Monday, but they were also very distracting from my tiredness.

Black bling:
I hadn't put the earrings away after my "stuff" picture last night.

  • Wrist-wrap - local
  • Cuff - vintage 60s, Trifari
  • Earrings - Le Chateau

I promise to do better tomorrow!
