Pink and Patterns, and Goodbye Speckle Shoes

Although I'm ready for summer to be over, I'm not officially into my fall/winter wardrobe until after September 30th. The rest of this month will be revisiting pieces that I love and need to wear again, or that I am not sure about.
 I knew when I got this pink cashmere sweater that it would be fabulous with this skirt.

  • Sweater - no label, thrifted; first worn here in August with jungle print
  • Skirt - Kate Spade, thrifted; first worn here in July with cream
  • Shoes - Camper; last seen here (6th outfit, waaaaaay down) with teal and pink leather in May 2016
  • Coat (below) - Desigual with Christian Lacroix, consignment; last seen here (4th outfit, waay down again) in February over cream and orange

L ran back to get his brolly - might rain!
 And I was right! I layered a peachy-orange vintage slip under the whole outfit for smoothing, and a little peek of orange at the hem of the skirt. Both the sweater and the skirt are keepers.
 It's a bit hard to see (thank you, crappy morning light), but the shoes are not solid black; they are speckled with bright pink.

I loved how this coat went over the dotty patterned skirt. It's a gorgeous coat, and I kept it out for spring/summer wear, but this is its first wearing of that season. I need to sew a couple of buttons back on it, and get it ready for fall.
 It was just right on this grey day.

The stuff:
 It's time to say goodbye to these shoes. They are a bit too high, and hurt my feet, and frankly, I haven't worn them in a year and 4 months! What does that tell me? That I don't love 'em.

In addition to today, and the last wear (noted above), I also wore them thusly:

  • In May 2016 with pink and gold and stripes, here;
  • Here (2nd outfit) in November 2015 with purple and black;
  • In June 2015, here, with a grey bustier I don't wear much;
  • For Pink Shirt Day in February 2015, here; and
  • In January 2015, here, with all the jewels.

I paid $118.00 for them for 7 wears, so not the greatest cost-per-wear at just over $16.00, but that's not as bad as I'd feared. I'm fine to let them go.

Black bling:
I am getting a bit of a "black gem" collection now.

  • Long necklace - Fossil, consignment
  • Short necklace - ElleandEm, thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted

  1. I like the chunky-ness of the shoes, very 1940's. But I understand about giving up the higher heels, they hurt. And it is very liberating to be able to walk around fast and comfortably. Do you think that high heels are a diabolical way to keep us enslaved and suppressed?

    1. Yes, that's what I liked about them too! But they aren't good for wearing for long periods. Yes, actually I do think that high heels can have that effect - the key is that we have to CHOOSE to wear them for ourselves, not others. Thank you for such a thoughtful comment, Gerrilyn.

  2. Bye shoes!! Even though they are kinda cute----if you're not wearing them, you're not wearing them!

  4. I can't believe it's been so long since you last wore those shoes! One of my favourite pairs of yours, I really like them. I understand not wanting uncomfortable shoes though - I have no patience for uncomfortable things now! Would much rather wear something supportive :)

    I really like this outfit too, the jumper and skirt are just perfect together.

    1. I know! I thought I had worn them more, so a bit disappointed in myself over them. Thank you, Mica!

  5. I have the same cashmere sweater--or very similar, anyway--in a vivid berry shade by Lands End (thrifted!). It's dead useful for layering in the winter and somehow the color seems to go with everything. I love it with my cognac leather skirt, maybe in the same color ballpark as your peach skirt. I hadn't thought of wearing it in the summer.

    Hmm, maybe time to pull it out now. I won't bring out most of my fall-winter items until October, but I have already packed away most linens, and I'm starting to phase in some richer and darker colors. Why? Because. It's 85F today--but I'm done with summer.

    1. Ooh, sounds lovely, S! I might keep this sweater out for layering, as you said, great idea! I am resisting end of summer - two more whole days!!

  6. You've been away and I've been over-run, but here I am playing catch up again. As you said, the sweater and skirt work perfectly together and I like that cute little peek of petticoat too. Cost per wear for the shoes ain't so bad - good enough for you to let them go, I agree.

    Lovely to see you back in the groove.

  7. Yes they're the perfect match and look fabulous together.
    The CPW is a bit high, but hey you tried. I have a pair of shoes that I am trying to get a lower cpw on before letting go.

    1. I just can't justify keeping them just to lower the CPW, but I do get what you mean, Lorena. Thank you!
