Weekend Wrap-Up: Funky Friday, Lettuce Dress, Winesday Clothing Madness, Sack for Shopping

Phew, what a lovely weekend it's been! Just the right amount of social and quiet time, party and naps, and even a bit of shopping. Ready? Here we go!

Friday's outfit was simple, just a dress.
But what a dress! This is one of two that I bought in Italy a few years ago. It's a favourite, so let's make this my outfit for Patti's "Visible Monday" over at Not Dead Yet Style. Get there!

  • Dress - I'M by Isola Marras; last seen here (4th outfit) in September 2016 with beige boots
  • Shoes - Asos, consignment; last worn here in June with shiny grey ruffles
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here on Wednesday and Thursday

I love the mish-mash of patterns, which are on silk. The solid burgundy colour is satin.
Very cool back detail! I wore a vintage half-slip under this for coverage - it's short!

It rained overnight and was still a bit gloomy during the day.
 Just enough cover.

The stuff:
 I love these pretty shoes!

Green bling:
The necklace flopped around a bit, but I liked how it looked with the dress.

  • Necklace - J. Crew, thrifted
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Earrings - Stella & Dot, consignment, Vancouver
  • Sparkly ring - consignment
  • Jade ring - Mom's, vintage 70s

L and I played boardgames on Friday night - we were up bright and early for Ultimate Frisbee on Saturday morning!
Time to wear my "lettuce" dress again! A shout-out and kudos to Kasmira over at WhatIWore2Day for the mention and for her fabulous idea about rotating clothes in one's wardrobe! I know I haven't worn this dress for a while because the hanger was backwards.

  • Dress - Simply Taylor, consignment; last seen here (4th outfit) in June 2016
  • Shoes - Fugitive, thrifted; last worn here in a mullet outfit in September 2016

This was the last wearing of the shoes. They rubbed one foot after a while, and I'm just not feeling this look anymore. Off to a new home, they are, but let's have a little retrospective and see how I've done with my cost-per-wear.

  • Last seen here, with blue and cream in September 2016, as noted above.
  • Here in June 2016 with fluffy leopard.
  • With a leather dress here in September 2015.
  • In August 2015 here with my bark skirt.
  • With cream and aqua in April 2015, here
  • In September 2014  here with that same leather dress and fruital.
  • In a blah outfit here in August 2014.
  • Here (3rd outfit) with blush lace and a fur hat in April 2014.
  • In April 2014 again here with pink and lace.
  • April 2014 was a strong month for these - how about sheer and more cream here?
  • That leather dress is back again here in February 2014.

They were purchased here in February 2014 for $10.00, so including Friday's outfit, that is 12 outfits for 83 cents per wear. Thanks for the memories, shoes!

Green and pearl bling:
I like wearing Mom's necklace. Easy stuff for changing back into after the Ulti game!

  • Necklace - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Earrings - thrifted

After Ulti, we had brunch followed by a quick grocery shop (and a long-ish nap), and a tidy of the house for the evening arrival of the Winesday women!

I went through all of my giveaway stuff (it's been taking over the library for a long time!) and sorted it. This is the accessories:
Some vintage slips and half-slips, a hat, loads of belts, buckles, jewelry, some nail polish.

The benches were just a mount of clothes, roughly sorted into dresses, tops, jackets, sweaters, skirts and my plaid raincoat.
It was fun to go through it all! Some good memories here. I did pull out one skirt that I wanted to keep (this grey one). We'll see how it fares once I go back to my fall/winter wardrobe.

The shoes were in the library - not too many of my friends wear my size, although I do pick up smaller and larger sizes sometimes.
 That's 24 pairs gone!

Since I wanted to chill with my gals, I wore a casual outfit.
I went through my workout and t-shirt collection and cleaned out a ton of stuff there for donation. I was happy to find this tee!

  • T-shirt - SuperFischal, purchased in London; last seen here (2nd outfit) on the blog in June 2010!
  • Jeans - Levi Strauss, thrifted; last worn here last week with loads of fringe

The tee says "His Dudeness" - it's The Dude from "The Big Lebowski".

Some very blurry pictures of some of the Winesday gals trying stuff on! I blame the photographer and wine!
Grace is rockin' these killer shoes - too high for me now!

Tracy, Linda, Yvonne and Vero holding stuff up.
A very blurry shot of Yvonne's "muah!" top.
Karen and Grace in the background - Grace got a couple of pairs of shoes.

Grace and Vero.
Neither of them took these pieces! Aw!

But look how happy Karen is to find this beautiful dress!
It looks amazing on her! She did take this home.

After a very late night, a sleep-in and much coffee this morning, I dragged myself to town to get groceries.
It's back to being hot and sunny! Love it!

  • Dress - Joe Fresh, thrifted; last seen here in May with blue suede shoes
  • Shoes - Franco Sarto, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in July with my silk All Saints dress

 All sunblocked up, of course.
It's a sack dress - it's not meant to flatter! It was lovely for trying stuff on, though (easy to take off and put back on!), as I did go for a little shop after I was done at the grocery store.

I got annoyed at the hat on the way to town.
The wire in the brim popped out and the hat's bit big anyway. I left it on top of a mailbox, and it was gone by the time I came home. Goodbye, bad hat!

The stuff.
These shoes were so comfy to walk in. I'm quite stiff today from all the running around on the field yesterday.

  • Earrings - Plum

I went to the WIN Warehouse store to find they've done a re-org of the clothing department - a huge improvement for browsing! All the dresses are hung higher and the tops are all on lower racks. So much easier to look at them! I also like that they've put vintage items next to the thrift and boutique sections. No need to segregate the vintage!
This pretty pink, gold and burgundy scarf looks awesome in my hair. It's by Echo and was $6.95.

You are going to laugh at me - I have a penchant for crazy pants!
These are magnificent shiny brocade! Probably from the late 90s/early oughts - the rise is quite low.

They were in the "Special Items" rack, where they put all the designer stuff. They were $59.95 with 25% off , so $44.95.
Look at that fabric! Worth every penny!

I even love the button.
They're by Piazza Sempione, and were made in Italy.
The fabric is also Italian-made. Cool.

I really like this beautiful pink blazer.
It's a blend of linen, silk and wool, and is gorgeously made.
The fabric is woven in Italy. It's by Brooks Brothers and was $32.95.

I loved the soft blue of this sweater.
It is 100% merino wool and is by Badgley Mischka
It is noted "as is" and shrunken, but other than being a teeny bit puckery on the seams, it's in really nice condition. For $9.95? Mine.

And how was your weekend?

Two-Fer: Cranes and Disco Dutch, Plus Mermaid Inspiration

Miss me? My company had its quarterly meeting last night, and after a few glasses of wine and lounging around on a rooftop patio until it got dark, I tumbled into bed when I got home. So you get a two-fer the price of one today!

Here's Wednesday's outfit, full of things I love.
Whoosh! I caught a breeze on the stairs in the morning.
This top always elicits gasps when I reveal it's H&M. I know, right?

  • Top - H&M, consignment; last seen here in April with goldenrod
  • Skirt - Tribal, consignment; last worn here in June with backwards floral
  • Shoes - Prepare Hi Steady, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2016 with zigzags
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn here in June

This was a very popular outfit with my work crew.
Except for the shoes (nicknamed "Disco Dutch" by my coworker many years ago when I first got them). They always get mixed reactions.

It has been chilly and windy over the last two days, although it's still sunny out. I needed the coat early in the morning, and again late at night as I tottered home.
I was glad I had it.

The stuff:
You love these or you hate these. There is no in between. It is impossible to be neutral or "meh" about them.

Yellow and white bling:
First wearing of these white "are they or aren't they plastic or Bakelite?" earrings. I bought them in Sidney for $2.00. I think they are, but without testing I can't be sure.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - thrifted
  • Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

Shout out to my awesome co-worker Lada who commented that the outfit today reminded her of a mermaid.
I was so excited! Yes! That's exactly what I was going for!

  • Top - Scotch and Soda by Maison Scotch, vintage store in Vancouver; first worn here in April with houndstooth
  • Skirt - Alfred Sung, vintage 80s, consignment; last seen here in February with a satin blouse (I need to wear those shoes again!)
  • Shoes - Ecco, vintage store in Vancouver; last worn here in April (way down past the closet pics) with a fabulous dress, that I also need to wear again
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last worn yesterday!

I wore a full-length vintage slip under this (you can see a bit of it peeking out of the hem of my skirt in the stair picture) to compensate for the sheer back of the blouse.
 That's my ink showing through!

Same coat as yesterday.
I am appreciating that this summer is not as hot as last year's. Our province (BC) is being ravaged by forest fires, and I was thankful that we had some rain overnight. Send more to the interior, please!

The stuff:
Probably the most boring shoes I own, but they were a useful neutral in this outfit. I'm okay with that.

Scaly bling:
I love wearing this set.

  • Cuff/earrings - Fossil, gifts from L
  • Bracelet - thrifted

I'll be back on Sunday with my Friday, Saturday and Sunday outfits. I'm hosting Winesday on Saturday, and am giving away oodles of stuff from my closet, so I'll be sure to take some pictures of my girlfriends and our mad try-ons! Have a fabulous weekend!

Grey Geometry and Ruffles

Another dentist appointment today, and I'm frozen up to my eyeballs. What I thought would be my last appointment for a while turns out to be the penultimate instead. One more go-round of antimicrobial goop sealed up in my tooth, and then I get it filled and a new back on my existing cap.
And in other news, I'm wearing all grey! I felt pretty grey today (even though this outfit has very shiny elements).

  • Blouse - Jones New York, thrifted; last worn here in June with neoprene
  • Skirt - Nygard; last seen here in December 2016 with that cool white top I have
  • Shoes - Gentle Souls; last worn here in April with cranes and goldenrod

"Na na na...CAT BOMB!"
The shiny blouse was layered over a mustard yellow cami this time, and I totally nervous-sweated through the blouse, so it's in the wash.

I'm going to go have a nap when I'm done blogging, but first, lots of ibuprofen and extra-strength Tylenol.
"And a warm cat to cuddle with!"
I love this skirt - it's a piece I bought new at the Bay way back in my early blogging days. It's stood the test of time, mostly because of all the colours in the pattern (white, gold/yellow, blue/navy on a grey background) and because the pattern goes all the way around the skirt! I always rail about this - I loathe when the back of any garment is just left black or blah. We can be seen from all sides! Designers, decorate us accordingly, pleas!

Outerwear, aka hat. I walked home from the dentist.
Not in these shoes, of course. I switched to my runners.

The stuff:
These really are a heavenly pair of shoes - they are incredibly comfy, but look dangerously high (they really aren't).

Simple bling:
My balls and chain. Heh.

  • Ear-balls - Dior
  • Chain - thrifted
