Adventure Weekend Wrap-Up: Sidney-By-The-Sea Shopping, and a Stroll for More

What a fabulously fun and yet still relaxing weekend! I had just the right amount of social interaction and shopping. Yay!

Saturday, Cat, Elaine and I ventured out to Sidney-by-the-Sea, a small town that's on the way to the ferries - it's about a 30 minute drive or hour and a half to bus - thank you, Cat, for driving us all!
We had a plan of attack: to hit all the interesting consignment and thrift stores in town. Gotta wear shopping clothes!

  • Dress - Kensie, consignment; last seen here (3rd outfit) in March for another shopping expedition
  • Shoes - Down-to-Earth Hadfield, Fluevogs; last worn here for a shopping trip with Mom in October

A sure way to have good luck if you're looking for shoes is to wear shoes that lace or do up. If you're wearing slip-ons, forget it!

We walked all over town (all 3 blocks of it) and shopped till we dropped. We all had good luck.
This dress is one of the comfiest things I own that I can wear in public.

It was chilly and raining off and on, so time to bust out the leather.
A silk scarf for warmth, fingerless gloves for the cold stores (you have to be able to feel the fabric), a crossbody purse to stay out of the way.

The stuff:
All the flowers! I gave my shoes a coat of Woly to help protect them from the rain.

Floral bling:
I'm digging the uneven earrings.

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment
  • Leaf earring - Plum
  • Stud - local

All along the drive out through the peninsula, we passed farms.
There's ocean on the other side of those trees.

Mitchel's Farm still has pumpkins.
They look pretty.

We enjoyed Norma Jean's Closet consignment store, where we all bought a few treasures.
She carries a mix of vintage, consignment and some new things, like Betsey Johnson jewelry.

We also visited the local St. Vincent de Paul, Beacon Community Thrift and Connections Consignment (link 'cause I love). Three hours later, exhausted and hungry, we chilled out in the pub.
Yup, that's rain. Still raining.

I found a couple of things at Norma Jean's Closet. These barely worn Poetic Licence shoes were a score at $30.00.
They are a light cream fabric, trimmed with silver-printed white leather.

Did I mention the sparkly heel?
And the glitter platform?

What about the glitter in the heel?
I shall be a "Frozen" princess!

Look at that, hardly any wear!
I bet these were worn for either a prom or a wedding. They're called the "Oldie But Goodie" - heh, that describes me pretty well.

I also caved and bought these funky crystal and pearl "front and back" earrings for $6.00.
Too cool!

At Connections consignment, I found two things I was pleased with. First, this killer thin sweater dress.
It doesn't look like much, but it's a very curvy cut on. I'm excited to wear it.
Two fine cables run down the front. This is by Olsen and was $25.00.

I found this shirt on the sale rack for $9.00 while Cat and Elaine were busy with their own stuff.
Generally, if I shop with someone, I have to be talked out of the glittery, decorative clothes. I am a sucker for anything shiny, a total crow.

I mean caw! look at that.
I love the very pale grey with the silver and darker grey accents. This is by Ciel et Neige.

Last night, L and I stayed warm and hung out with Vizzini while playing board games. I found him this morning, getting the baseboard heater radiation at his bedroom station.
"I like this warm place."
 Sun, at last!
"I'll supervise the falling leaves from here."
So nice to have a clear day! It's still cold out, though.
I can pretend it's summer again! I do believe I'll be joining up to Patti's "Visible Monday" over at Not Dead Yet Style. Get going, I'll wait.

  • Sweater - Banana Republic, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in September with fringe to see CR Avery
  • Cape of Good Hope (worn as a skirt) - Smoking Lily, consignment; last seen here in January in anticipation of hockey
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last worn here a couple of weeks ago for a weekend shop (shocker)

I headed to town to get groceries, then visited a couple of my less-frequent consignment stores. Since I didn't spend too much on Saturday (under my planned budget), I felt okay with having another shop today.
Easy on, easy off, that's the way to go.

I wish I'd worn warmer scarf and gloves, but the rest of my outerwear was fine.
Got my music, and I'm ready to roll.

Still a few leaves on the maple trees, even after all the stormy weather.
I love all the Victorian houses in my city.

Also all the crows.
I see six of them staking out this beech tree.

This pretty tree caught my eye.
I liked the lichen growing on the fence.

All those dark spots in the trees are crows' nests.
No crows today, though - they were hanging out in their downtown tree, above.

I found this awesome 90s/early aughts knitted dress.
It's by Le Chateau, and it's made in Canada. It was $29.00 and is from Rich Rags. Like the red dress from Sidney, this one is a curvy, mid-calf dress - very nice on.

I hate that it's dark so early now! You will have to imagine the vibrant violet of this sheer Guess blouse.
It was on the sale rack at My Sister's Closet for $9.50. I did very well there - which is why I don't visit there very often! I'd spend too much.

I like the inset lace trim.
It has a nice boho feel to it.

I cannot resist a fitted plaid jacket!
This one's by Bianca Nygard and was $25.00.

I've lamented losing our Plum store in Victoria for many years, but every so often one of their items shows up.
This is a leather-look stretchy tee (that sort of liquid-y look, very sexy!) by Plum that was $14.95.

I know! Another faux fur! I think I have a problem.
This one was $20.95 - it's by Live a Little. The colours are pale slate blue, brown and black.

I can't resist a Talbot's pencil skirt - they're so nice! This one was $24.95 and is made of wool and mohair.
Fuzzy lavender? Yup, here, take my money.

I also found some accessories
The cuff is hinged and feels like steel - not marked anywhere but it seems like good quality - it was $5.50. The necklace was also $5.50. The gold metal is in good condition. The beads that look black are actually dark blue - I love all the colours in it!

And now, back to the football game. I hope you had a rad weekend!

  5. I like those shoes that you bought and i have never been to the "Closet" shop in Sidney...I discovered a new consignment shop in Sidney that has recently opened and they only sell "high end" name brand clothing. Their prices were a bit high but they had a great selection...I am sorry that I don't remember their name!
I think they were on the same street as the Sally Ann.

  6. Oh, Sheila, these long posts are fab, but selfishly I only wanted to ask for these flowered shoes. I think you may be tiring of them, I can sense that you would like to be very benevolent and perhaps donate them to someone in need...me! Anyway, such a lot of lovely things you found, and makes me want to shop too.

  8. What a fabulous bevy of new wardrobe editions! I especially like the heavily embroidered grey shirt. You really scored some marvelous pieces and it sounds like you had a great time out in Sidney to boot (Sidney rocks, I always try to visit there if I'm on the Island, too).
