Mega-Weekend Wrap-Up: IWWIIW, TY, Summer Punk, Shopping, Summer Goth and Lettuce (and a Snoozy Cat)

Hey, where did that weekend go? I hope you have all been getting up to much trouble and/or good times! I know I have!

Let's cast our minds all the way back to...Friday! Oh yeah, "I'll Wear White If I Want, Thank You."
Since I remembered I owned the aqua cropped pants of last week, of course, I had to build an outfit around the white knee-length jeans pants I have for this week.

I've been neglecting my sweaters this summer, due to one of the hottest summers for us on record. We had a scorcher of a weekend, starting with Friday, so this was perfect for a hot day, even a little too warm by the end!
The sweater was thrifted a few years ago. I don't wear it that much, but I do love the zig zag pattern and the funky colours. I last wore it over a year ago, here, in June 2013. I think I will keep it...for now.

I just have a little aqua cami on under it.
I love these shorts/clamdiggers/whatever they're called. I last wore them here (2nd outfit) in July.

I had a lot of comments on being "super casual" at work on Friday. I guess I have raised expectations on Fridays - back to more formal wear next week!

The stuff:
I think I'm going to let these shoes go after this summer. They are getting ratty, and the foot bed is lifting up. The search for a new black sandal is officially on! I last wore these here in July with beads and yellow.

Silver and turquoise bling:
I've had the "S" pendant for nearly 30 years.

Sweater (Le Chateau, thrifted), pants (Contrast, thrifted), shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction, consignment), cuff (Shi Studio), earrings (Oscar & Libby's), "S" pendant (gift from Mom & Dad, 80s), Fulvia ring (Wendy Brandes).

After work, we rushed home to get ready for a punk show! Elaine, Cat, Ross, L and I all met up for drinks and dinner, and then we went to the Upstairs Lounge (former legendary club Harpo's - I remember when Nirvana played there before they were famous) to see RADco and Art Bergmann.

I had to go all out. I had to!
One of my wackier ensembles, but really, am I going to go ultra-casual to a punk show? Not on your life!

Holy carp [that's deliberate], it's "Visible Monday" over at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style! I'm linked up! Get over there!

I slicked back my hair, redid my make-up and put this outfit together. Must wear all the rocker things!
This is a white t-shirt! Not something I normally to. It's actually "Zombie at Tiffany's" by Threadless (seen once here, 3rd outfit, back in May 2013). I needed to keep my tattoos under cover of the hot sun, and this was perfect.

Second wear of the denim bustier, last seen here in August with pink leather. It stayed up much better over the cotton t-shirt, so it earns a reprieve.
I adore this pewter leather skirt. Yes, I foolishly wore leather out and about on a very hot evening! However, by the time the show ended, it had cooled off with the breeze coming in off the ocean, and all was well. I last wore this skirt here a year ago for Elaine's birthday!

The stuff:
We bused to town, but walked home afterwards (after going to another bar after the show, and also going for 2am pizza!). These shoes are wonderful! I wore them here just last weekend.

All the rocker bling:
A mix of old and new. I'm pretty sure the studded cuff has been to Harpo's before, heh heh.

T-shirt (Threadless), bustier (Smart Set, thrifted), skirt (BCBG Max Azria, consignment), shoes (Enzo Angiolini, consignment), belt (gift from Ruth), chainmail necklace (handmade locally), teeth necklace (The Bay), studded cuff (vintage 90s), black cuff (Guess, thrifted), rings (all vintage 80s), earrings (locally made).

There are some professional pictures of RADco here. The following are Elaine's pictures from the show.
They reminded me of early No Doubt, and I liked that the two women in the band were not sexualizing themselves. Love the Cons and the jumpsuit!

A very cool colour effect from Elaine.
It wasn't a huge crowd, but I know this venue and it's loud. Thankfully, the coat check girl hands out free ear plugs. Yes, I am an old lady who wore ear plugs for the entire time. I lost enough hearing in my youth!

I loved the crazy lights on the floor and bar we were standing at.
Pretty patterns!

Professional shots of Art Bergmann here (none with me in them, although we were really close to the stage). I had never heard of him until this show, and wasn't familiar with any of his music, but he's described as Canada's Lou Reed in this article.

More of Elaine's photos:
His guitar says "Take back your mind."
Bergmann is 61 years old and crippled with arthritis (he was stooped, and his knuckles were huge). But man, he can play!
It wasn't a long show, and it was started early (8pm on the nose for the opening act), and wrapped up at 10:30pm.
Just enough time to shoo us old fogeys out and let the pretty young things come in, not even knowing what a fun show they'd missed.

I was only slightly hungover for our Ultimate Frisbee game on Saturday morning!
But what a hard game! We only had 4 players a side (usually, we have 5 or 6, depending on how many show up), so it was a lot more running. Combined with another smoking hot sunny day...whew, we were all just dead after 2 hours.

Probably the last wear of this dress for the year, and away it will go with the summer pack-up.
I last wore it here in July with all-gold accessories.
I got 3 wears out of it this year (and just bought it this year), so I'm happy with that.

The stuff:
These shoes, on the other hand? Time to go. The toes are scuffed up, I don't like the colour anymore, and meh, I have other shoes I like more and wear more. And lo and behold, I didn't even wear them all summer! I last wore them here in August 2013.

Simple bling:
Bracelet, belt and earrings.

Dress (Artistic Taste, consignment), belt (thrifted), cuff (local), earrings (don't remember).

After brunch, I went for a little shopping stroll. I find that shopping helps keep me from stiffening up after all that running around.

I went to the Victoria Hospice store, and the Velvet Crease, and had a little retail therapy after my sort-of crappy week.

I found another leather skirt (yes, another, don't judge me!).
I don't have one in caramel, and I love it! It's that nice soft leather that's going to scuff up and get more and more worn - I love when leather has that look. In fact, that's probably why someone donated it - it has a few small scuffs on it.

It was only $25.
It's by Edging by InWear, so probably a Dots purchase at some point.

I also found this cute sweater.
I see that fringe is big for fall, and I love the fringed 3/4 sleeves. It's also a good neckline for me, and isn't too chunky.

L hates it, but he can't tell any shades of blue or purple apart (Mr. Colourblind), so he probably thinks this is a muddy brown mess.
I love the mix of colour - and not too bad at $16.00.

I thought this leather belt was sweet. I like that the buckle, studs and end piece are all gold.
Only $6.00! It's by Kudos, and oh, looks like they are out of Vancouver. Cool! It was made in Canada, which is a nice bonus.

I was super-excited to find a brand new pair of runners! As I walk to work every day, I like to have a comfy, yet fun shoe to wear. My last good pair wore out, and the replacement pair aren't comfortable, so these are my new walkin' shoes.
PINK! Leather! Metallic!

AW!
They are quite comfy, but I'll reserve judgment until I've worn them a few times.

The brand is Miss Sixty, which I've never bought before.
I like the "bubble" pattern of the soles.

And for only $12.00?
I'm totally good with that!

I did find one other thing at the thrift store.
It's a crystal ball!

No, it's actually two crystal dishes.
And only $1.00.

I have to be good in the Velvet Crease and only buy things I really love. I spotted this black leather jacket on a display and knew I had to try it.
Black leather with a wrinkle texture, very fitted, with a slight peplum at the hem. It buttons across the waist at an angle with loops instead of button holes.

And do you see what the neck is doing?
Ah! It's got a leather collar attached! In love! In love!

Back detail.
The sleeves have a slight puff at the shoulder and the cuffs of the sleeves are zippered. It's by Peter Nygard (his signature is embroidered on the black satin lining and is about 6" high) and was $50. His jackets are usually around $200, so this was a pretty good deal.

I wish I'd had time for a nap after shopping, but no! Shower and get dressed to head downtown to the pub for our dear friend Vero's birthday! There were plans to go dancing and hang out at her husband's design studio afterward, so I amped up my outfit accordingly!
My friends called this "Gothic burlesque" but it was actually really cool to wear. I had a lot of fun dressing up this weekend!

Just managing to link up to Judith's "Hat Attack!" over at Style Crone in the nick of time! I know, it's a fascinator, but it's in my hair!
"Are you going out again? What item of yours shall I eat?"
I've got a bunch of items that I've purchased over the past few months - and it's been too hot to wear them. This skirt is one of those items. It billows when I walk, and the sheer overskirts floofs out. It's quite dramatic. It's by Noa Noa and I bought it new here at Dots for $34.99, in a moment of weakness. I can't resist Noa Noa samples.
The full ensemble with purse. I always forget to photograph my purses. Not that I have a lot of them, ha!

The blouse is a favourite, although I haven't worn it much this year (last time here in May). It has flies all over it!
The pretty embroidered design on the skirt!

The stuff:
We bused to town again, but also walked to the studio and home (again around 2am). My legs are tired! These shoes were fabulous to wear and dance in all night. I last wore them here (2nd outfit) in July, during another friend-and-fun-filled weekend.

A melange of bling:
I love that purse. See the gears printed on it? That's a numbered limited edition. So awesome.

Blouse (Smoking Lily), skirt (Noa Noa), shoes (Born, consignment), belt (vintage 60s, Mom's), necklace (Bauxo), fascinator (Heart's Content), cuff (Midzo, thrifted), single gold earring (Foxy), stud earring (local), lapis lazuli ring (Wendy Brandes).

Today, I slept in a little then went to town to get groceries.
A simple outfit, easy shoes!

I actually wore my jean jacket over this to protect from the sun.
I last wore my "lettuce" dress here (2nd outfit) in June.
It's a keeper.

Gold bling:
I am wearing these shoes a lot this summer! They are also definitely keepers! I wore them here (2nd outfit) last weekend.

Dress (Taylor, consignment), shoes (Born, consignment), earrings (thrifted).

I went to the WIN Thrift Boutique after getting groceries, but I didn't find anything. Sometimes you don't.

L is back to his all-day Sunday football marathons. We were both happy to see our teams win today! Go, Dolphins and Panthers!
"Did someone say "panther"?"
After a bit of leg-bumping and general neediness after not having us around all weekend, Vizzini's settled down to sleeping on the glassed-in deck, on the tiles.

He loves the heat.
"Go away."
A scritch on the tummy, and he goes all stretchy.
"Is it photo time? Let me give you my good side."
And from stretchy to curled up he goes.
"And...cuteness."
I hope your weekend has been warm, fun and full of naps in the sun.

  1. You and L are social butterflies! So much to-ing and fro-ing and looking smashing. I especially love that punked out look, Sheila. Miss Sixty shoes for $12? Good one. Not to mention the leather jacket... Don't pack up all your summer stuff just yet; the forecast calls for more sun next weekend. Excellent.

  2. A busy weekend! Love the leather maxi skirt, the checked maxi dress, and that fabulous Noa Noa skirt. The leather jacket was a nice find. We still have some sun but not much heat, so your summer is lasting longer than ours! xxx

  3. Thanks so much for explaining about Folex! It sounds like something I really do need! I'll keep an eye out for it in the supermarket, I definitely don't recall seeing it but maybe we have something similar.

So many nice outfits too - sad to see that pretty grid print maxi dress packed away for next year's warm weather, it's a beautiful dress and is really stunning on you! Love that leather jacket you purchased, look forward to seeing how you wear it!

It shows in your posts :-) take a bow! Oh and Vizzini is cuteness personified/animalified! XO JJ

  10. Oh that window pane long dress is absolutely spectacular - the moment you said it was the last wear of the year for a moment I thought you'd get rid of it and I was going to jump on that wagon! but then i read its being put away for next summer :)

  12. You are wearing all my favourite items in your wardrobe in this post - how did that happen? From the Lettuce dress (please leave it to me in your will, ok?) to the pewter leather floor sweeping skirt, and the navy and cream deliciously floaty dress. GAH, I would soo love to play dress up in your closet! The pink metallic sneakers are pretty sweet. Your hair is so cute when it's slicked back and flipped like that - you should wear it like that more often.
